A customer favorite since 1983 the Chessters ice cream sandwich is still the most popular ice cream cookie sandwich sold in Vermont convenience stores. Our cookies are made with a recipe our founder developed in his kitchen over 20 years ago. Our custard ice cream is rich and creamy. Put together they create ice cream cookie heaven.

Creamy Vanilla Frozen Custard with Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
A pillow of vanilla frozen custard between two homemade tasting chocolate chip cookies.
Our founder, Ted, grew up in Rochester, New York, happily eating frozen custard from Abbott's. Moving to Vermont for college and later to assistant coach hockey at the University of Vermont, Ted missed this Western New York speciality. With the opening of Chessy's Ted brought his beloved treat to the Burlington area in the form of Chessters ice cream cookie sandwich. Originally the cookies were baked at the store and the frozen custard was hand-scooped to create the very handmade sandwich.
As Chessy's turned into Rhino Foods and the demand for Chessters grew locally, an early production line was created. Production was still very manual requiring skilled hands to get the cookies and frozen custard correctly positioned. Our Master Scheduler began at Rhino in production and retains the title of the fastest scooper on the Chessters line, which Ted likes to tell us all from time to time. The Master Scheduler adds she was at least three times faster than Ted.
The Chessters is packaged for impulse sales in convenience stores, supermarkets, and food service applications.
