Until the 1990's, Ice Cream had a pretty ordinary
existence. In fact, Ice Cream was not even invented - it developed
over the centuries to the product we know today:
* In 62 A.D. Emperor Nero used snow brought by runners
from the Alps to make ice confections flavored with juice and honey.
* In the 13th Century, Marco Polo brought to Italy
the recipes for Sherbert he obtained during his journey to the Orient.
* In the 17th Century, Charles I lured a chef from
France who developed a Cream that delighted his court. It was reserved
for royalty.
Chocolate's OK, but common. Vanilla? Ever hear the
expression - plain as Vanilla? For almost two centuries, Ice Cream
was waiting, hoping, dreaming for some excitement and then...
* In the early 1990's, Rhino developed and began
producing the first extruded chocolate chip cookie dough that started
one of the hottest crazes in ice cream history.
